Pie•Pan's Birthday Painting

Sometimes I get to take on projects that really moves me into a head space that is uplifting and enjoyable on multiple levels. This is one of those projects. A good friend and long time buddy had asked me to create an art piece as a birthday gift for another good friend and old school pal to whom she is now married. There were no special requests for anything in particular and I was given absolute free range. Immediately I knew I wanted to do a multimedia piece that represented his interests, unique personality and some of the memories I have of him from all the years that we have known each other. This is the result, a multimedia piece that includes references to his nicknames, favorite candy and bands, inside jokes and his interests in mods, scooters, cooper minis, video games and his wry sense of humor. While I was creating this art, I couldn't help myself form laughing and sighing at the good times that shared in our younger years causing mischief, partying, giving each other sh*t, and having great adventures. The memories that bubbled up were bitter sweet. I miss the those days, the scene and circle of friend that we were all a part of. I am really grateful and stoked that I thought of and asked to be the one to make this gift for him. It was a nice ticket for a reminiscence trip back to a very special time in my life. Ok, enough mush here is what I created for my two friends Chilipeppa and Pie-pan.

The Left Over Screw

Mixed media on 12" x 12" canvas.

I have been doing a lot of messin' around with mixed medias and experimenting with some different techniques I picked up watching Youtube. This one uses aluminum foil, hardware, spray and acrylic paint, distress inks, mod Podge, laser print outs, plastic beads, rhinestones and glitter glue. What you think?

Cigar Box Butter Chimp Screen

My first print of the Cigar Box Butter Chimp using an Ezprints screen on some test paper . I am quite happy with the way it held the detail. The Ezprint screen was really easy to make and way simpler than making a decal.

Rocco's Pizza Surfer Dude

This is a hand drawn character I came up with for a 4 color t-shirt design for Rocco's pizza place which will be opening up in the Harbor mall in Lihue, Kauai

First layer on the front: vinyl scraps and some fabric. The stripy fabric makes the eyes go a bit buggy!

Here is a suitcase I am working on to hold my decals and art when I am out on the road and takin'it to the streets! This is front with some scrap vinyl I had and some fabric over a $5 thrift store suitcase

Honu the Guide Decal Design

A new Honu design I have been workin on. I hope to do a test cut tomorrow and see how all those lines hold up

Paint pens on sintra, decorated with a rope border, driftwood hanger, macrame, raffia, shells and coral.


I made this one with sea glass, driftwood, opihi shell, macrame, beads and a piece of coconut with a lil Timbuwara figure painted on it, some job's tears and a dried Hala fruit.

Happy Anniversary Painted Coconut

Here is a coconut I painted for my friends Elicia & Frank's 20th Anniversary. They were here on Kauai to celebrate so I was able to give this to them in person during their visit. 20 years Ho brah, dat plenty long time!

Clamvertible

I finished up this little hukilau bound buggah over the weekend. "Clamvertible" was created with Sumi ink and brush pens, a colored pencil for the highlights over ink washes on watercolor paper. It is available for purchase at my Etsy page

Ukulele Jelly Jam the Painting

And here we have a painting of the "Ukulele Jelly Jam." This is another acrylic background and paint pen combo. I painted this one on a 12" x 16" stretched canvas. If you really like, it is for sale on my Etsy page.

Minion Muster at Pana Towers

Ink wash on watercolor paper then fastidiously finessed with the Tombo brush pens and a watercolor pencil. (Mahalo for the tip on water color pencil highlights Little Lost Tiki) The Mushmen captains await their orders.

I been bringing my sketch book everywhere lately. I have got into the mode of doing colored ink washes on the blank pages with no idea of what the final image is going to be. I let it sit for a few day then just start sketching the first thing that comes to mind. Sometimes I surprise my self with what come out of my twisted noodle: Hence this one that I am calling "you're robot is loose again."


This one was a rough sketch that I had done for a logo that I ended up doing the wash and ink as an after thought:

New Art for The Forbidden Island Parking Lot Sale

Well... been doing my best to get my eggs in one basket for The Forbidden Island Parking Lot Sale coming up next Sat 9/13/08. Here are a few of the latest artistic items I will have for you to look at and purchase.


"Tribal Hammerhead" was made with colored markers, and a white gel pen for the highlights with an india ink background on watercolor paper. It measure in at 8" x 6"


"Puffie's Tune" started as a study for a painting, that I am going to try and have done before next weekend, that came out a pretty neat. It was done with Tombo brush pens in my sketch pad. I now wish I had done it on thicker paper. This buddy comes in at 8.25" x 12" I will try to post the rest of my finished projects as they become such...finished that is. Looking forward to minglin' with some of you in a few short days!

The Searchers from the Tikis & Turtle Series

Here is another one of the characters from the turtle series I was doing for the
Tiki Magazine Bali Hai Art Show which was a blast by the way. These guys were done using a acrylic wash for a background on a canvas that I had sitting around for awhile. After I had most of the background and shapes blocked in I sealed it with polyurethane and went at it with the trusty, yet temperamental at times, paint pens. The final had a sea grass frame around it which along with the painted canvas was mounted on a piece of masonite board to help give it some girth. I gave this one to my sister for her birthday. You may still see or better yet hear more about the Turtles and Tiki Travelers Once the
Coconut Wired Under Ground Testing is complete.
