Coconut Wired adventure #12 - It's not Over Till It's Over

Jahmbi Photo complements of Dawn "Sophista-tiki" Frasier.

The Men In Grey suits have tried to shut our signal down, but the ever so clever Monkeypod was able to out think them and regain control over our podcast. They MIGs have threatened and vowed to infiltrate our barriers, shut us down and bring us up on charges of sedition. Our minutes are numbered, but we will continue to stand defiantly and keep crankin' out tunes until the end. Although our future is lookin' dark, we remain stoked that we are able to put these tunes into the ears of the Coconut Wired listeners. And even though we finally managed to get the sassy podacasters under control at this stage it may be a moot point. Good thing we have the tasty artwork of Dawn "Sophista-tiki" Frasier to look at and the awesome tunes of El Capitan and the Skallywags, The Barbwires, The Surfonics, The Pyronauts and Waitiki to keep our minds off the impending doom we face. Special thanks to Tomputer for letting us use his song Flein 2 for the background music of the MIG segments.

ATTENTION BANDS AND ARTIST!!
We are always looking to feature new artist and music. If you are or know somebody who is creating artwork or music inspired by the tropical surf, exotic cocktails and magical lush jungles and who would like to be a part of Coconut Wired. Zap us a message!
Aloha,
Chongolio

Illustration Logos by Chongolio

I have been pretty busy workin on some illustration logos for several clients over the last few weeks. The Biker girl and Skull illustrations were done for my good friends over at Medieval Metal to help promote their new line of cool biker style Ponytail holders for the Harley Davidson Set.

Here are also a couple logos and business card layouts I did in a tikis style for a couple clients. The first one is for Tiki Todd Productions. Tiki Todd handles the booking of bands down in Southern California.

Here is another logo and business card layout I did for Tikiscapes, a landscape business in Florida who specializes in tropical inspired design.

This last illustration of a House Gnome was done for SSJC Inc. in New Jersey. They are in the business of purcasing houses in disrepairand helping people out who have houses that are in danger of foreclosure or have become a finacial burden. This little fellow was used on postcards, flyers and business cards.

Smokin' Menehunes live at Bamboo Ben video

Another clip up of the Smokin' Menehunes Jammin' at Bamboo Ben for the Orange County Tiki Crawl III back in 2003. There is Another one here. These clips have the original line up consisting or Kevin "Tiki Bong" Bullat, Spike and Shirley Orlando who helped co found Ukes for Troops. The quality is not great because I was shootin' into a bright window in the background, but the sound is OK and you get a pretty good feel for the fun we were all having. Be sure to listen for the squeaky beer cooler!

James Michener's 100th Birthday

February 3, 1907-October 16, 1997

James Michener is one of my favorite authors and I have read and re-read many of his books. Favorites of mine being Hawaii, Rascals in Paradise (co-written with A Grove Day), Caribbean and Mexico. Reading his books made me feel like I had traveled back in time and witnessed first hand the adventures and events he wrote about. When reading one of his books I feel a little more smarter. I always regret coming to an end of a Michener novel and wish they just kept going.

Here are a few James Michener Links:

James Michener on It Happend in History

-- In an age of anxiety men seek a refuge. Because of some deep urge, constant throughout history, troubled men traditionally dream of islands, possibly because the smallness of an island invites the illusion that here the complexities of continental societies can be avoided, or at least controlled. This is a permanent, world-wide dream.
